Sensory Workshops

“The sensory workshop is something outside of enrichment, something much more unpredictable, a multipurpose room that can shift its shape a thousand times under the sustained improvisation of the people at hand. It’s an effort meant to loosen the day’s clock a little, let an emergent world arise for a short period of time, a source of discovery for both artist and guest.” Source, Sara Hendren, “Risky Disco” Harper’s Magazine, October 2023.

Following a visit from Sara Hendren Artist, Design Researcher and Author we are thrilled to announce that our centre is featured and highly praised in an article in Harper’s Magazine. Sara came to the centre in order to better understand the Sensory Workshop, what we do and how it can enrich the lives of those who attend the centre. The article “Risky Disco” captures her experience at Cherry Road beautifully.

“…each encounter in the sensory workshop embodies a singular belief: that every human is a riot of adaptive capacity, no matter one’s outward form of communication. That a consciousness, alert and unpredictable, exists in each and every body, whether you can witness it or not.”

Art Psychotherapy

An Art Psychotherapy student trainee is at the centre holding sessions as a part of their university placement training. Art Psychotherapy offers a safe, creative and confidential space for understanding ourselves, exploring feelings and getting some help with difficulties. Anyone can take part – you don’t need to have any previous experience or skill in making images. Often people find that making art helps them to get different ways of understanding their current circumstances and the world around them. Sessions are adapted to meet each person’s interests and needs and can include different types of art making. She will be at the centre offering support for some of the service users until Easter.
